Timely Tips: Working with 1099s 
ALERE Accounting records 1099 payments to all businesses whether or not they are
identified as requiring a 1099 form. This allows a company that is changed from not
requiring 1099 tracking to requiring 1099's to have immediate and accurate year to
date payment information.
 
Each company location has 1099 settings. Normally, all company locations would have the same 1099 setting. However, should the occasion arise that a company requires tracking of two or more types of 1099 information then the locations can be set separately.
 
For example, Rent and Interest payments are received from the same company. The location one 1099 setting could be set to Rent and location
 two could be set to Interest. Simply billing the company by location would properly track the 1099 amounts.

We hope that this is a method to stay in touch with our client base and potential customers.  Our goal with Innovative Voice is to introduce new products, new exciting projects that other businesses are implementing, and some tips that could enhance the processing of your data!!

 Assisting in Controlling Inventory

   

One of the larges obstacles in a business is controlling inventory!  Do I have too many parts in the warehouse or not enough? Many of our clients not only have a manufacturing area to the business but also a customer walk-in and purchase. 
 
By spending time implementing a couple features of ALERE, the time initially spent will come back to save time and assist in controlling inventory.
 
Wireless Scanners?  The item master of the ALERE Business Applications has a UPC field.  The UPC code can be scanned directly into this field from the actual item.  A button can be added to the inventory screen to print a bar coded label with your item number for those items that do not have manufactures' bar codes.
 
The Sales Order would have a minor modification to allow the scanning of both item numbers or the UPC code. The Sales Order process becomes quicker due to the operator  not needing  to enter the item via the keyboard.
 
We have an added bonus.... physical inventory.... the dreaded counting of inventory!!!!  The scanners have a "physical count " mode which allows the scanner to be taken into the  warehouse to take physical counts. The UPC code, or the label that was printed with the item number, can be scanned  and the quantity entered into the scanner.  The scanner can hold up to 1,000 items without downloading or going back to the workstation. The inventory is then downloaded to an excel worksheet, processed, and updated into the inventory adjustment screen in ALERE with a push of a button. 
 
Are these scanners expensive? The scanner is a Metrologic MS9535 Voyager BT which currently retails for $340 without memory and $357 with memory. The additional $17 allows for the scanner to be utilized in taking inventory!!!!!  The Zebra LP2824 bar code label printer retails for $228. 
 
 Important Update on Sage Products 
 
Innovative Tekniques, Inc. is committed to our clients, and as of this month, we have renewed our service agreement with Sage through the next year.
 
Our  Sage client base remains Pro 6.0, an earlier version of Pro, or Vision Point. We have made the decision that this is the last year we will be renewing our service agreement. This is due to the agreement not covering or supporting the earlier versions of the products mentioned above.
 
We will continue to support you with our knowledge to the best of our ability, but it is important to understand that the authors of the software no longer support these versions. Our understanding is that there will be no new releases of the Vision Point product and the last release of the Pro Series will be released within the coming year.
 
Recommending an upgrade to our client of a product that is no longer going to be moving forward would be a disservice. A conversion program is available for all Sage products moving to ALERE Business Applications.
